Note:
Major Marter commanded the left wing on the voyage out. He commanded a detached squadron in the field from 1st June 1879 to the end of the campaign and he was personally responsible for capturing the Zulu King Cetshwayo in the Ngome Forest on 21 Aug. 1879. Marter was mentioned in despatches and promoted Brevet Lieutenant Colonel.
