Extract:
Cetewayo is in the bush and we are trying to surround him, he has with him some oxen and if he holds onto them we may be able to track him, it will be far harder if he deserts his poor beasts. I am just going off to see Major Gurney at Empangeni, he has with him a company of the 91st and some 80 natives. They are increasing my strength here by a company of natives and from Port Durnford to St Pauls we are to form a sort of cordon along the north side of the Umlatoosi river and in that way hope to catch his Majesty. The whole line is under the command of Major Bruce.
