Lot Essay

Like the fox, the hare is credited with an abnormal span of life, and does not become white until it is five hundred. It is said to conceive by licking the fur of its male companions, or by gazing long at the moon, or by leaping over the waves of Lake Biwa, as in the play Chikubushima.
