BIBLE. GOSPEL OF ST. LUKE. Single leaf from a large ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM
[Paris, ca. 1260]
284 x 188 mm., justification 185 x 130 mm., double column, 53 lines and headline. Containing on recto Marc xv:4 - xvi:20 and on verso Luke i:1 - i:29. TWO LARGE ILLUMINATED INITIALS at the head of Luke, both blue and pink on gold ground, with long descenders. 1. Letter 'Q', a winged ox, the symbol of St. Luke. 2. Letter 'P', an angel appearing to Luke. (Small portion cut from lower blank margin of the leaf.) With later marginal glosses.
