A George III mahogany long case clock
John Cattwood, Liverpool; circa 1790
The case on bracket feet with hollow-cornered raised panel to the plinth flanked by quoined angles, the trunk door with foliate cast gilt-metal escutcheon and flanked by reeded quarter columns, the hood with twin reeded columns flanking the door and supporting a swan neck pediment with gilt-metal rosette terminals and turned mahogany urn finial, the dial signed Jn. Cattwood, Liverpool on a silvered sector in the matted and foliate engraved centre with subsidiary seconds ring, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, inner concentric calendar ring, foliate spandrels, painted rolling moonphase in the arch, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell.
