The Ravisher (B. 92; M., Holl. 76)

engraving, 1495, a very fine and early Meder b impression of this extremely rare print, with significant 'burr' on the tips of the branch at the top and the lines at the lower right corner, the scratch to the lady's left temple, the line to the veil at the left and the light vertical lines at the upper right corner all very clear nad distinct, with part of a Bull's Head watermark (M. 62), with thread margins, with a few touches of pen and ink at the platemark, the tips of the upper corners made up, residual glue stains at the reverse edges, other slight staining and minor defects mainly at the edges

Lot Essay

Early impressions are extemely rare and the present example bears favourable comparison to that in the British Museum which is a touch richer and has similar inky plate edges. The present impression has more 'burr' or residual ink to the tips of the branch and to the lines at the lower right corner.
