3 volumes (of 4, lacking vol. 1). 16° (110 x 75mm). Volume titles within full-page architectural frames, book titles in ornamental borders, vols 2 and 3 in contemporary blindstamped sheep (worn), vol. 4 in contemporary silver-tooled vellum dated 1582 (oxidised and worn). Provenance: initials AD THL (with date 1582) stamped on cover of vol. 4; Israel Hale (ownership inscription opposite title in vol. 4, dated 1720, with note 'late my friend Aquilia Rose')

PLANTIN'S FINE SMALL-FORMAT HEBREW BIBLE OF 1566, printed with the type of the great Venetian printer Daniel Bomberg, and notable for Plantin's innovation of numbering the verses (Bomberg had introduced chapter numbers). Lacking the first volume containing the Torah, but in good condition in contemporary bindings. The Five Scrolls, usually appended to the first volume, are here in the fourth volume.
