MARSOLLIER, Jacques. Histoire du Ministere du Cardinal Ximenés, archevésque de Tolede, et Regent d'Espagne. Paris: Louis Dupuis, 1739.

2 volumes, 12° (163 x 96mm). Metalcut ornamental initials and head- and tailpieces. (Some light spotting.) Contemporary citron morocco gilt, central arms of Madame Sophie [Olivier 2514, fer 5] on sides, gilt spine with 2 lettering-pieces, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, edges marbled and gilt (A few small, light spots, small scrape, lower board of volume II slightly bumped). Provenance: Madame Sophie-Philippine-Elisabeth-Justine de France (1734-82, binding); J. Dawson-Brodie (bookplate).

A fine example of a binding executed for Madam Sophie, one of the daughters of Louis XV and Marie Leczinska. The bindings of the Mesdames de France are distinguished solely by the colour of the morocco and were primarily the work of Fournier and Vente. (2)
