It is interesting to note that while in exile in France, Mary of Modena, wife of James II, is known to have befriended a nun named Anne-Louise at the monastery of Chaillot, where the queen had a permanent room from 1689 to 1712. Although the pendant on the present medallion probably dates from the 18th century, it is possible that it was added on the strength of a verbal tradition dating from the later 17th century.
