Lot Essay

The marble original of the Venus Callipygos is now in the Museo Nazionale in Naples. The Antique was first recorded in the Farnese collection in 1594. It maintained a high reputation from the middle of the 17th century, and copies were made particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries for the Grand Tourists.
