TIBET
1912-60 The remarkable one volume study formed by Henry Garratt-Adams offered, practically intact (only a few selected rarities have been abstracted and offered separately). As is the hallmark of the late owner, who was a prodigious student but eschewed the limelight associated with exhibiting, no concession is made to aesthetic appeal. However, the research notes included with the collection are of great value.
1912-50 First issue includes complete sheets (4x3) of the Dull ink t. green, 1/3t. ultramarine, ½t. violet, ½t. lilac, 2/3t. carmine, 1t. vermilion (very early state), 1t. carmine, also a good range of shades, a few printed with shiny enamel ink and cover (14) about half of which are commercial; the 1914 (and later) issue is represented by complete sheets (3x2) of the Dull ink 4t. violet-grey (2) and 8t. carmine, probably from the remainder stock. The 1933-60 issue contains many complete sheets comprising ½t. orange pin-perf. (1st setting), ½t. yellow imperf. (4, later settings), 2/3t. blue pin-perf. and imperf. (2nd setting unused, 3rd setting used, 4th setting unused and used), 1t. carmine pin-perf., 1t. orange imperf. (3), 2t. scarlet pin-perf. and imperf. and 2t. imperf. (7, from later settings), 4t. green pin-perf. (1st setting, rare) and 4t. imperf. (5, from later settings) and XU5 (19, with Tibet/India or Tibet/Nepal combination items, (some are philatelic). Other items include India used in Tibet with about 15 XU5 and a small section of Chinese Post Offices. A fascinating lot.
