Lot Essay

After having returned from captivity in 1919 Radziwill went to the seashore and the village of Dangast inn 1921 for the first time. From there he sent a postcard to his friend Wilhelm Niemeyer depicting almost the same motif as the present watercolour but without any person. These two little works of art might represent the first thoughts of Radziwill to get settled in Dangast which he later did.
