GEORGI, Christian Sigismund. Wittenbergische Jubel=Geschichte. Wittenberg: Johann Christoph Tzschiedrichs for Johann Joachim Ahlfeld, 1756.

4° (226 x 183mm.). Title in red and black. 7 engraved plates by Scleuen, Berolini, Höroldt and Fritsch (2 double-page, 4 folding). (Small hole repaired at inner margin of title, some spotting and browning.) 19th-century German marbled boards (extremities a little scuffed).

An illustrated description of the celebration of the bicentenary of the signing of the Peace of Augsburg on 21 September 1555. This marked the end of the militant phase of the Reformation. It was therefore appropriate that Luther's home-town should be granted royal licenses to hold the celebration. The university was authorised to organise the festivities and Georgi was appointed to devise the programme and to record the prayers, sermons, didactic verses, Lutheran hymns, the names of the participants and the order of the day.
