This 350cc side valve Sunbeam has an amusing early history. It was purchased new by the Schoolmaster of Lewdown, a small Devon village, and he used it up until about 1930. It was well known that he would take the local Vicar to his church and on his parish rounds on Sundays, the Vicar dressed in his full cassocks used to ride side sadle! When the Schoolmaster left the village the bike passed to Mr Francis Wells also of Lewdown. Mr Wells was a well known engineer and motor mechanic with a reputation for being able to make anything, he himself was a Scott enthusiast. He kept the Sunbeam in his garden shed until he retired in the early 1970s when the present owner saw it and managed to purchase it also with the intention of restoring it upon his retirement. The bike has still not been restored and over the past ten years or so it has been an exhibit in the Totnes Motor Museum, Devon.
It is very complete apart from a rear chain and perhaps a chain guard, the engine turns over freely and will make an ideal restoration project.
