A ZAND PAPIER MACHE POLYCHROME LACQUER QALAMDAN with rounded ends and sliding tray, the red lustre top painted with a delicate variety of floral sprays around a central string of three black cartouches containing birds perching on fruit blossom trees, a small inscription panel above and below, containing the signature of Muhammad 'Ali Ashraf, also the signature of Janini al-Umra and the date 1165 (1751-2 AD), the sides with red lustre cartouches of similar flowers flanked by waisted similar black panels, the black base and red tray with gold scrolling palmette vine, 18th century (slight damage)
