With 140 albumen prints from carte-de-visite-size to approx. 11 x 16 in. and including one two-part panorama 10½ x 24½ in., each with printed title, descriptive text, printed list of illustrations, introduction and title page, brown morocco, elaborate foliate design in gilt around pictorial scene with icebergs, polar bear and seal incorporating title on front and back covers, g.e., elephant folio.

Gernsheim states "On account of the superb photographs which show scenery of snow and ice, Eskimos and the expedition's vessel, I would reckon this volume with those of the Bierstadt-Watkins expedition (1870) and Francis Frith's Egypt, Sinai, and Jerusalem (1860) as outstanding works.
