THE FIRST EDITION of part I of the North American Pilot covering Newfoundland and the St Lawrence. Thomas Jeffrys obtained the Cook plates for his St Lawrence surveys in 1768, before Cook's departure on his first Pacific voyage. Initially they were published as a Collection of Charts in 1769, which was expanded to the North American Pilot under Sayer and Bennett's direction. Tooley America pp.194-6; NMM III 359.
