Lot Essay

A painter of portraits, landscapes and figure subjects, Ward was born in Taunton, Somerset, and studied art at South Kensington. He lived in Chelsea and later at Blewbury, Berkshire. He exhibited only three pictures at the Royal Academy (1898-1900), preferring the Royal Institute of Painters in Oil Colours, of which he was elected a member in 1913. His Witt Library file is exiguous and his work seems to be rare.
