The inscription reads 'To Captain Thomas Driber. Commanding the Ship Clyde. this bowl is presented by John Laird and RUSTOMJEE COWASJEE. OWNERS OF THE LATE SHIP MAHOMED SHAW. in grateful testimony of his skilful and humane conduct through which under Providence were saved the whole of her crew when that ship foundered of the coast of Orifsal in the bay of Bengal on the eigth of September 1822'
