Lot Essay

The elliptical table's inlaid laurel-branches emrging from arabesque acanthus-scroll relate to that of a table supplied for Langley's, Essex, when the court cabinet-maker Charles Elliot was furnishing the house in the late 1790s (see: Charles Elliot, 'Royal Cabinet-Maker', Connoisseur, June 1959, p. 36, fig. 5)
