4° (295 x 230mm). 6 soft-ground etchings by Matisse, 20 reproductions of Matisse's preliminary drawings, on blue and yellow paper. (First etching very lightly spotted, slight offsetting onto text, one or two leaves a little soiled.) Original brown buckram, gilt, after LeRoy H. Appleton, publisher's box (slight loss to gilt on front cover, spine a little dulled, front inner hinge lightly cracked, box worn).

ONE OF 250 COPIES SIGNED BY BOTH JOYCE AND MATISSE, number 1270 of an edition of 1500. When first published, unsigned copies were sold to members of the Limited Editions Club for $10, whilst signed copies cost $15. The text is that of the Odyssey Press, 1932 edition; this is the first illustrated edition of the work. The six etchings were issued separately by the Print Club, New York in 1935, in an edition of 150 copies.
