This drawing differs in small details, such as the banners in the background, from the signed study at Oberlin College, W. Stechow, Catalogue of Drawings and Watercolours in the Allen Memorial Museum, Oberlin College, Ohio, 1976, no. 323, pl. 144. The black chalk underdrawing in the present drawing might suggest that it is preparatory for the Oberlin sheet.
