Lot Essay

Although the authorship of these models has been disputed between Bridan and Pigalle, scholars are now attributing them decisively to the former (Gaborit, loc.cit.; Poulet, loc.cit). The models were originally created for the Cardinal de Luynes, and it is noted by Stanislas Lami (Lami, loc.cit) that Bridan executed five further versions in marble.
