With their tasselled-lambrequin drapery and bold acanthus-scrolled feet terminating in richly-plumed satyr-masks, these stands relate to Roman pier-tables of the early 18th Century (see A. Gonzalez-Palacios, 'Settecento Furniture at La Pietra', Apollo, September 1971,
