An apparently hitherto unrecorded version of the painting in the Prado (K. Ertz, Jan Brueghel der Ältere, Cologne, 1979, pp. 365, 368 and 607, no. 300, and fig. 436). Another version accepted by Dr. Ertz as the work of Jan Brueghel I and Hendrick van Balen on the basis of a photograph was exhibited at the Koetser Gallery, London, 1958, no. 16 (ibid., no. 301). Dr. Ertz dates both pictures c.1615; both are of the same size as the present painting and similarly on panel
