A fine example of Solomon's late symbolist style. The subject is the Delphic Sibyl, one of the wise women of antiquity reputed to have foretold the coming of Christ, surrounded by the laurel leaves by which she made her predictions. Burne-Jones had treated the same theme in a stained-glass window in the Chapel of Jesus College, Cambridge, designed 1872, and a painting based on this design, Sibylla Delphica (Manchester City Art Gallery), exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1886
