The base and patera-enriched scrolls of this tête de poupée mantel clock are closely related to a design by Daniel Marot, which is illustrated in Das Ornamentwerk des Daniel Marot, Berlin, 1892, p.178. A similar clock with related contre-partie marquetry is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Francaise, Paris, 1967/1969, p.105 while a further example, with closely related première partie marquetry was sold from the collection of Mrs. James Hasson in these Rooms, 3 December 1981, lot 25.
