Lot Essay

This pattern of Apollo-lyre splat, but with rosette-enriched base, features on a closely related chair bearing the stamp of the menuisier Jean-Baptiste Claude Sené (elected maître in 1769) (illustrated in F. de Salverte, Les Ebénistes du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1962, pl.LXVII). A related pair of chaises by Claude I Sené was sold anonymously at Christie's New York, 26 October 1994, lot 96.
