Lot Essay

Nguyen Thanh Le usually conceived most of his sculptural works from his atelier situated at Thu Dau Mot which is near Saigon. These works should be sold from the artist's atelier directly, the base of the base sculpture would be waxed in black. However, should the sculpture be sold from the casting studio, the studio's stamp would be fixed to the base which would be lacquered in black.

After the Accords de Geneve (1954) which divided the country, it became very difficult to get bronze material for the sculptures. Eventually, Thanh Le adopted the habit of using the metal of the sockets which were found on the battle fields.
