Lot Essay

Mackintosh seems to have been closely involved with the Glasgow Architectural Association during the early 1890s when he gave a number of lectures to its members. This programme is one of the earliest documented 'Spook School' designs, sharing with the work of other members of The Four an imagery of malevolent birds and menacing organic forms.
