A Yaozhou Celadon Carved Conical Bowl
Northern Song dynasty, 11th-12th century
The very slightly rounded sides flaring widely to a rim notched to form six petal lobes, the interior well carved with a large leafy peony stem enhanced by rouletting below a narrow line border, with another line border on the exterior, all under a crackled glaze of greenish-olive tone, the interior of the foot and base covered with a thin glaze wash

A Yaozhou bowl carved with a similar design of peony sprays on the interior was included in the exhibition, Iron in the Fire, Asmolean Museum, Oxford, 1988, no. 21, and another is illustrated in Masterpieces of Yaozhou Ware, Osaka, 1997, p. 50, no. 64.
