French manuscript plan of the island of Mombasa on the east coast of Kenya, black ink and wash on paper, (51.5 x 68cm.), showing buildings, forts, churches, sandbars, depth-soundings, with scale-bar, compass point, within ruled border (some waterstaining and light browning)
Amongst the fortifications on the coralline island of Mombasa is Fort Mombasa, built by the Portuguese in 1593-5, known as the Jesus Fort.
