Plane und Charten von Alt Griechenland nach Anacharsis Reisen, [?Germany]: 1810. 2° (39 x 24cm.). Manuscript title, 26 manuscript plans and maps in black ink and watercolours, each within a ruled border, on paper and laid down (small paper flaw to plan of Thermopylae). Original cloth-backed wrappers (slightly marked, a few short marginal tears).

An album of attractive plans, charts and views of the temples, palaces and sites of Ancient Greece, including the Parthenon, Delphi, Olympia, Spartica and others, with 13 maps of regions of Greece, concluding with plans of the battles of Thermopylae, Plataea and Salamis. The manuscript title suggests that the plans are taken from Jean Jacques Barthelemy's Voyage du Jeune Anacharsis en Grèce (Paris: 1788), which was translated into German as Reise des jüngern Anacharsis durch Griechenland (Berlin: 1789-93). 'Though there had been earlier attempts to popularize and disseminate what was known of Greek antiquity, none had been as influential and successful in "educating Europe to an appreciation of the life and "sensibility" of the ancient Greek"' (Blackmer 83).
