Further details
Studio Alchymia was co-founded by Alessandro Mendini during 1976/77. The anti-design collective of designers and writers were to prove fundamental to the inception of Memphis and to the development of Postmodernism. This painted panel was reputedly fixed to the main door of the first Studio Alchymia shop, then operating from a Milan basement. Painted in a metaphysical style indebted to De Chirico, the jumbled landscape features a distorted rendition of Mendini's 'Non' chair of 1974-75, and asserts Alchymia's proclaimed affinities with the Italian avant-garde of the 1920s.
