Lot Essay

Pierre Adrien Graillon (1809-1872) was born into a family of Dieppe ivory carvers, but he was adept at modelling in other media too. He was also an acute observer of nature and of everyday life around him, and so he therefore specialised in genre figures, portraying ordinary people such as beggars, seamen, fishermen and children.
