This sequence was made by Minor White for a one-man exhibition at the Carl Siembab Gallery in Boston, December 5-31, 1969. Mr. Siembab, who ran one of the earliest photography galleries in the United States, exhibited works by Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Frederick Evans and Aaron Siskind among others from 1955 through 1983. According to Mr. Siembab, White referred to this particular sequence as a work in progress and suggested it be included in the exhibition. The work remained in Mr. Siembab's collection until it was sold to the present owner after the gallery closed. There is one other known sequence displayed similarily consisting of 8 images at the Minor White Archive at The Art Museum Princeton University.
