The case with bell top pediment surmounted by a gilt-brass pineapple finial, with urn and pineapple finials to each angle, shaped sound frets to the sides and caryatid mounts to the front, on four paw feet, the arched brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, silvered retail plaque inscribed GOLDSMITHS CO./NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE to the matted centre, steel fleur-de-lys hands, the triple chain fusee movement with anchor escapement, quarter chiming on eight bells or four gongs, with hour strike on further gong, the spot-finished backplate with pendulum holdfast and numbered 1518 -- 28½in. (72.5cm.) high
