A George III ebonised and brass-mounted musical table clock, third quarter 18th century
The bell top case with swag mounts (later) and flowerhead cast finials (later), with brass handles above the sound frets to the sides, gilt-brass male caryatid mounts to the front (later), frets to sides, front and rear (later), raised on stepped block feet (later), the arched brass dial with female mask lower spandrels (later) to the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the centre painted with a scene of man walking along a country lane between fields, with box date aperture and mock pendulum aperture (plate lacking), signed on a silvered plaque Wm. Boyd WhiteHall, steel hands, with subsidiary rings to the sides for strike/not strike and chime/not chime and with tune selection ring to the arch for Minuet/March in Scipio/Blythe Collin/Rakes of Marlow/Minuet/Ally Croaker/I wish I may die if I do/Minuet/St. Chas. Sedley Minuet/I Love Sue & Sue loves me/Miss Fox's Minuet/ye lass of the Hill, the substantial seven pillar triple wire fusee movement with verge escapement, the shaped backplate elaborately engraved with foliage, secured to the baseboard with plain brackets, with music on thirteen bells with twenty five hammers via 12in. pinned cylinder and hour strike on further bell mounted to the front, secured to the seatboard with later brackets -- 26in. (66cm.) high
