An English mahogany longcase clock
The case with pagoda top hood (top rebuilt) with brass ball and spire finials and central cast brass silk-backed sound fret, fluted mock pilasters flanking the breakarch, with part brass stop-fluted and brass-capped columns to the front and plain half pilasters to the rear, glazed side panels, the breakarch trunk door within a moulded frame and flanked by three-quarter length brass stop-fluted pilasters, the partially rebuilt plinth with raised quatreform panel and on later base with wavy apron, the 12in. brass dial with female mask and foliate scroll spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and lozenge half quarter hour markers, matted centre with wheatear engraved border to the date aperture, ringed winding holes and subsidiary silvered seconds ring, later blued steel hands, with dolphin spandrels to the arch flanking a silvered convex signature plaque within engraved slip, signed Peter/Laurans London, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell, with later seatboard; case associated to movement and dial, case third quarter 18th century, movement and dial circa 1720 -- 98½in.
