Iran, 10th-17th centuries
Comprising seven Safavid or Timurid circular seals in jade, carnelian, bloodstone and jet, each inscribed in naskh, together with three oval earlier seals with kufic inscriptions

Lot Essay

The inscriptions on the seals read:
1."Confident in the Worshipped Creator, the Servant, Rukn al-Din b. Mas'ud"
2."Confident in the Absolute King, the servant Hajji Husayn b. Muhammad"
3.Repetition of "I put my trust in the Creator" in both positive and negative.
4. "Confident in the Worshipped King, Chaqmaq b. 'Abdullah"
5. In the margins the nada 'Ali quatrain (see lot 257); in the centre "might is for the One who does not die".
6. Confident in the Absolute King, the servant, the son of ... Yar, Ahmad".
7. "I put my trust in God and needy of God, the Servant (of God) Ruhullah".
