A PALE GREEN NEPHRITE JADE BELT HOOK
North East Iran, circa 11th century
Of squat spherical form with drilled holed through the centre, one side with an extruded lug surmounted by a carved stylised seated lion which thus forms a hook, the sides of the body carved with a band of fine kufic inscription
1 5/8in. (4cm.) long

Lot Essay

The inscription consists of the three phrases:
al-mulk li'llah , al-'azama li'llah , al-kibr bi'llah (The sovreignty is for God; The Magnificence is for God, the Greatness is with God).
