A MAMLUK STYLE ENAMELLED AUBERGINE GLASS MOSQUE LAMP
Possibly France, circa 1867 AD
Of typical form with exaggerated baluster body and shortened flaring foot and neck, made of clear glass, the interior given an overall manganese wash, the exterior decorated with bands of stylised imitation inscriptions in cobalt-blue enamels outlined in yellow, three applied clear glass handles around the sides

Lot Essay

A lamp which from its proportions and calligraphy must have been made by the same maker was sold in these Rooms 24 April 1990, lot 328. That lamp had the date 1867 enamelled under the base, enabling this example to be similarly dated.
