Lot Essay

From 1885 onwards the artist was a frequent guest of Willem Witsen and his family at their country estate Ewijkshoeve. It was here that he met the musician Bram Arntzenius, whose two daughters, Liesbeth and Dora, are portrayed in the present lot.
