Lot Essay

David Pye (1914-1993) was one of Britian's most distinguished woodcarvers and turners. He studied architecture and taught at the Royal College of Art for 26 years; the last three of which as Professor of Furniture. He was the author of various important books on design including The Nature and Art of Workmanship and The Nature and Aesthetics of Design.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous public collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection
