Thomas Butler is recorded as a London cabinet-maker between 1787 and 1814. Despite repeated attempts to retire after 1800, Butler returned to manufacturing and dealing from extensive premises in Catherine Street. He was a specialist in patent furniture and Morgan and Sanders started their careers as his employees (see: The Dictionary of English Furniture-Makers, Leeds, 1986, pp137-138)
