A SET OF THREE VICTORIAN SILVER CANDELABRA
maker's mark of Robert Garrard, London, 1866 and 1869

Each on square base with incurved corners, cast and chased with winged cherubs and foliage, the tapering octagonal stem with portrait medallions of literary figures, the foliage-capped scroll branches with detachable octagonal drip-pans and vase-shaped sockets, each engraved with presentation dated 1868, one with nine lights and two with five lights, fully marked - 34in. (86.5cm.), 26½in. (67.5cm.) high

The inscriptions read 'PRESENTED TO SIR WILLIAM STIRLING MAXWELL BART. OF KEIR & POLLOCK BY THE TENANT FARMERS OF PERTHSHIRE & HIS OTHER FRIENDS AND ADHERENTS IN GRATEFUL RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICES AS THEIR REPRESENTATIVE IN FOUR PARLIAMENTS 1852-1868' (3)
