LEWIN, John William (1770-1819). [Kingfisher], signed and dated 'J W Lewin 1788', image: 209 x 165mm., ORIGINAL DRAWING, BODYCOLOUR ON VELLUM.

John William was the son of William Lewin and helped with the production of his father's The Birds of Great Britain (1789-1794). In 1800 he arrived in Australia, in 1805 he published Prodromus Entomology, Natural History of Lepidopterous Insects of New South Wales and his Birds of New Holland, with their natural history appeared between 1804 and 1808. He died in New South Wales in 1819.
