The above two lots are said to have been bought at Markino's first exhibition of his pictures as a surprise present for Mabel E. Elliott by her husband, Frank Louis Dumbell Elliott, C.B. early in this century. They were given to their daughter, Doreen, in 1944. On her death in 1966, the pictures passed to her brother, Charles Eliott, and they have stayed in the family ever since.
