Lot Essay

Although his first name is not recorded, a number of labelled pieces of furniture survive by this maker. There is another labelled canterbury at Birthwaite Hall, Yorkshire. He is probably the same Boulnois who supplied furniture to Lord Braybrooke at Audley End in the late 1830s (see: The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, Leeds, 1986, p.91).
A single chair with a fragment of this label was sold from the collection of Mr. John Kluge, Mar Lodge, Scotland, in these Rooms, 16 May 1991, lot 153
