This ewer is of a relatively rare form. Two of the group have been found bearing the signature of a certain 'Ahmad' in kufic. One of these was excavated in Shahristan, Ancient Ushrusana, while another example of the type was found together with some mid-eleventh century coins in 'Akhsikath, the ancient capital of Farghana, Transoxiana (Baer, E.:Metalwork in Medieval Islamic Art, New York 1983, pp.93-94 and fig.71)
